Looking for something a little different this New Year's? Tired of the same old techno sweaty dance party? Go culture yourself and get some theatre in you! Join the theatre group, the Sacred Fools, as they perform new (like day-old!) plays based on just a few keywords. It's definitely a different NYE experience, and one that you won't forget!
This year’s theme: time travel - the past and the future. Audience members are encouraged to come in period clothing (and yes, "The Future" is a valid time period).
Join the hallowed Sacred Fools tradition! A crack team of writers, directors and actors take a few key words and concepts and turn them into 8 brand new plays in a mere 24 hours!
Want to participate? Drop a line to Fast-and-Loose@sacredfools.org and become a part of what Backstage calls "one of the best theatre experiences in town!" Or...simply join them on the 31st to witness the outcome and ring in the New Year!
It also may well be the cheapest NYE date, at $15 at the door, $10 in advance. 660 North Heliotrope Drive, Los Angeles.

If you're looking for something a little more mellow and chill this New Year's, look no further than The Mint, where ultrachill Dengue Fever and Pollyn will be holding it down and celebrating with you. They're even serving dinner, so get fancied up and catch dinner and a show for your New Year's!
Dengue Fever's psychedelic take on the Cambodian pop sounds of the 60s makes them one of rock'n'roll's most unique success stories. The band's latest release, the documentary feature film Sleepwalking Through The Mekong (DVD/CD Soundtrack) continues the story and evolution of the band as they travel to Cambodia as the first Western group to perform the music of Cambodia since the fall of the Khmer Rouge.
The Los Angeles trio, Pollyn, wrote and produced This Little Night. It was mixed by Kristian Riley and Dave Cooley (Silversun Pickups, Darker My Love, and Jaylib). Pollyn has also produced official remixes for Gorillaz, Buffalo Daughter, Liquid Liquid, and Health. Pulling influences from Massive Attack to Talking Heads to Billie Holiday, Pollyn's sound is unique and bold, but comfortingly familiar. Celebrate NYE at The Mint. Dinner from 7:30-9:15, make your reservations now.
6010 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, Pollyn at 10pm, Dengue Fever at 11:30pm, $25 in advance, $40 at the door.

Hosted by Rodney Bingenheimer (Rodney on the ROQ) at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre, New Year's Nation simultaneously takes place in ten cities and four time zones, with an "all-star lineup of '80s greats" such as Tommy Tutone ("867-5309) and Josie Cotton ("Johnny, Are You Queer?"). There's even a special New Year's Eve kissing party, where to the soundtrack of classic '80s hits, people are going to attempt to break the world record for the most people kissing at once. What could be better when projecting yourself forward in the new year, but boogieing down to hits from two decades ago? Nothing!! At the Ricardo Montalban Theatre, 1615 North Vine, Hollywood, $50 general, $1000 for a VIP table of 6. But....it only lasts until 2am. BUT you'll be in Hollywood, so you're sure to find an after-hours party somewhere!

Mash up your New Year! Bootie LA celebrates New Years Eve, mashup-style, with a balloon drop, free champagne, free CDs, and more! To help you celebrate, resident dance crew R.A.I.D. (Random Acts of Irreverent Dance) will be helping count down to midnight and ringing in 2010 with a special New Years Eve performance. Indie-electro duo Purple Crush will also be performing a couple mashup performances throughout the night.
Resident DJ Paul V. will be on the decks, as well as special guests DJ Shyboy and DJ Axel, spinning all the best mashups from the past year. Get your photo taken at the DrunkRockers.com Photo Booth! Plus, we've got the brand-new "Best of Bootie 2009" CD -- our annual 20-track mix compilation -- FREE to the first 300 people through the door!
For all you history buffs, Bootie LA was launched in 2003, and was the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup -- and is now the biggest mashup event in the world, with monthly parties in six cities on two continents. Mixing and matching every conceivable musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party where everyone feels welcome, Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation.
Resident DJs Adrian, the Mysterious D, and Paul V. keep your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations, celebrating -- and satirizing -- the many different forms of music. And free mashup CDs will be given away like candy!
It's at the Echoplex and the craziest thing about this event is that it's only $10 before 10pm! $20 after, at 1154 Glendale Blvd.
