Fiesta Hermosa 2013

May 26 2013

With so many options for celebrating during the Memorial holiday weekend, picking someone all-inclusive is the way to go. Fiesta Hermosa, a four-block long festival, is a beach cities staple and will provide a perfect day of fun. Just steps from the ocean and surrounded by the Pier and Hermosa Avenue bars, you can stop for food and drinks while shopping. Yummy food includes snow cones, crepes, Greek, and other fair staples such as cotton candy.

From reading Fiesta Hermosa website, one might think the event, which includes a four-block- long set up with vendors selling custom art and other items, is an event strictly for family fun. The family aspect is definitely there, including cuisine from all parts of the world, a kids' carnival, and live cover bands. On the other hand, the fair is set up on Hermosa's infamous Pier Avenue, hugging the long strip of bars and restaurants, including Baja Sharkeez and American Junkie. For South Bay locals, Fiesta Hermosa is a staple Memorial Day Weekend. You get your board shorts and bikinis on, park close to the Vons Supermarket on Pier and PCH, and walk down the hill to the fair. For you music lovers, there are two stages. The main stage will feature tribute bands for Aerosmith, Fleetwood Mac, and more. Jam out to some Rockin' Blues and more on the Beer Garden Stage. Even if you don't intend on buying anything, it's inevitable. Unique paintings and pictures surround you, as does beautiful jewelry that cannot be fond elsewhere. And if you're like the majority of the beach festival attendees, after a few brewskis on one of the outdoor bar patios, spending a little extra will not be a concern.

The festival has been around since 1972, and used to be called "Festival by the Sand and Sea." According to the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce, it is the largest arts and crafts fair in So Cal.

The ATM lines get very long, so bring cash in advance. The fair food is really good, but have a cold drink in one of the restaurants to experience the real fun. Public beach restrooms get crowded. Walk a few blocks to 2nd street for a less crowded public
