UCLA Jazz Reggae Festival 2013

May 26 2013

The largest student-run festival in the U.S. is back! Be part of this monumental jam and reggae music celebration on Memorial Day weekend, May 26 and 27. The vibes are amazing, and the music, with favorites including Ziggy Marley and Barrington Levy, is even better. Artists will be selling a diverse array of items. Cultural cuisine, including authentic Jamaican, will be available for purchase.

The UCLA Jazz Reggae Fest, which has been in existence for 27 years, is a great way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend with live rhythm and beats. The festival is student run, and intended to bring the public diverse music and art. Bring your picnic blankets, hats and sunscreen, set up shop on the grass, and jam out to some beautiful music from favorites such as Ziggy Marley, son of Bob Marley himself. On Day 1, Sunday, May 26, enjoy Jam Day. The lineup will be announced this month. Day 2, Monday, May 27, is Reggae Day, which features some of the worlds' greatest reggae artists. The festival takes place at UCLA's Intramural field; no matter where you sit, the stage is always visible and the music audible. Additionally, performers are projected on large screens to give the audience a closer look. In addition to music, find all kinds of food and water from vendors who cook up cultural cuisine. This includes American, Jamaican, Latin and more. Although there is an ATM within the venue, make sure to bring cash to purchase food whenever you want. For those who want to get their hands on some unique arts and crafts, you're in luck. Talented artists will be selling clothing, jewelry, and other items. - Danielle Lenglet

The Jazz Reggae Fest is the largest student-run festival in the United States. Each year, the festival administrators put on a contest, which calls for talented fans to submit poster designs for the festival. This year's deadline in May 1, 2013.

Bring blankets, sunscreen, sunglasses, and cash. The festival does not allow outside food, coolers or chairs. It will be hot, so make sure to drink a ton of water! There is no reentry, but the festival has food, drinks and restrooms.
