The UCLA Jazz Reggae Fest, which has been in existence for 27 years, is a great way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend with live rhythm and beats. The festival is student run, and intended to bring the public diverse music and art. Bring your picnic blankets, hats and sunscreen, set up shop on the grass, and jam out to some beautiful music from favorites such as Ziggy Marley, son of Bob Marley himself.
On Day 1, Sunday, May 26, enjoy Jam Day. The lineup will be announced this month. Day 2, Monday, May 27, is Reggae Day, which features some of the worlds' greatest reggae artists. The festival takes place at UCLA's Intramural field; no matter where you sit, the stage is always visible and the music audible. Additionally, performers are projected on large screens to give the audience a closer look.
In addition to music, find all kinds of food and water from vendors who cook up cultural cuisine. This includes American, Jamaican, Latin and more.
Although there is an ATM within the venue, make sure to bring cash to purchase food whenever you want.
For those who want to get their hands on some unique arts and crafts, you're in luck. Talented artists will be selling clothing, jewelry, and other items. - Danielle Lenglet
