About meShortly after Glen Laughlin returned to Los Angeles from the Stukas Over Disneyland tour with punk rock legends The Dickies, he was involved in a motor vehicle accident. His left hand was crushed, seemingly ending his career as a musician. As we know, the story didn’t quite end there. A year later Laughlin rejoined The Dickies for several years. He also began to use the non-standard tunings he developed as a result of his hand injury. In addition to stints as a session musician Glen also played with Dewey Martin’s Buffalo Springfield Again, legendary songwriter P.F. Sloan, David Swanson of seminal Power Pop band The Pop and Eden Everly.
Deborah Gee raised in Texas landed a development deal with A&M Records in the mid ‘90s leading to collaborations with recording world luminaries Chris Lord-Alge, Mike Clink and engineer Jon Ingoldsby (Madonna, K.D. Lang). Deborah placed several songs from her debut solo album “Portal” in TV and films (list upon request). Occupying the drum throne was ex-Devo drummer Alan Myers.
After meeting Laughlin at a coffeehouse and discovering their mutual love for ‘60’s guitar-based melodic rock, the two began working at Laughlin’s Roundhouse Recording. The resulting music became The Cherry Bluestorms’ debut album, Transit of Venus. Transit of Venus made David Bash’s Top 100 albums of 2007 and Bad Penny Opera placed 22 in 2013. BPO, an ambitious song cycle referencing the 1960’s British Rock influences that inform the band’s music. Both albums were praised by the likes of L.A. Weekly, Goldmine, San Diego Troubadour Glasswerk UK, Gonzo Reviews, Sister Bluebird, Powerpopaholic, Not Lame, Absolute Powerpop, Music Junkie Press and others. The band just released their first vinyl single “See No Evil b/w Dear Prudence”. SNE got its first spin on KROQ by "Mayor of the Sunset Strip" Rodney Bingenheimer on the Rodney on the ROQ radio show July 18, 2016. Rodney has also been playing the band’s version of “Baby You’re A Rich Man” from Transit of Venus.
Mark Francis White, native to St. Louis, moved to Los Angeles in 1976. He was soon a highly sought drummer in the burgeoning New Wave scene. He has worked with Jackie Lomax and Keith Levene (formerly PIL) prior to joining The Bluestorms’.
The Bluestorms’ latest member, bassist & keyboardist Neptune James Max is native to Los Angeles and has played with several indie bands, notably Good Dog Nigel and The Trike Shop, with whom he recently toured England.
“Violent Heart” from TOV and “A True Heart Wears A Thorny Crown” from BPO were placed in Stephen Cannell Production television shows between 2004 and 2007. Gee has been tracking her second solo album, Geeology, with Laughlin co-producing. The band is currently working on their third album.
