There's a reason famous people build their houses way up high in the winding green hills: the views. Luckily, the Penthouse on top of the Huntley in Santa Monica offers Angelenos a far less expensive option for catching a glimpse of the awe-inspiring L.A. landscape. Walk through the marbled lobby of this modern hotel, catch a lift up the all glass external elevator and enter into a spectacularly swanky restaurant-bar-lounge combination that would excite even the most jaded resident. Patrons relax on lush white leather armchairs and benches or intimate booths (complete with sheer white privacy curtains) while the sip on wine and enjoy an appetizer. In the middle of this space is a sleek bar offering up martinis and specialty cocktails, but what really matters at the Huntley’s Penthouse are the walls. Giant floor to ceiling windows make up the exterior of this cool spot, giving everyone seriously amazing views of all of Los Angeles. The perfect setting to cozy up to a date or enjoy a girls’ night out, everywhere you look you see a different part of L.A. While the sun is still shining during happy hour, you can fully appreciate the sun setting over the ocean or the amazing rolling green hills that pop up all over the city. When the sun goes down, the view gets even better, showing off the sparkling city lights for miles. The space itself is reason enough to head over to the venue this weekend. With tables for a proper meal or areas to just enjoy a drink with a friend, you really can’t go wrong with this spot. It even gets the music going for some dancing off to the side of the bar on the weekend nights. Whether its your first time in the city, or you’ve lived here forever, the Penthouse at the Huntley is a great reminder of why this town is so special. Looking down over everything in an uber cool booth, it’s hard to imagine wanting to be anywhere else.

The Penthouse tends to draw in a bit of a celebrity crowd at both the bar and the restaurant. So don’t be surprised if you go there Friday night expecting to gaze at the views but end up gawking at celebrities instead. Just keep your cool.
Since this bar is on the roof of a popular Santa Monica hotel, they most definitely have valet service. It might be a little pricey but it’s definitely worth utilizing the option, especially on busy weekend nights.
