Situated in one of the top hipster neighborhoods in the nation, Satellite in Silver Lake is a nightlife institution, a small rock venue known for showcasing up-and-coming bands before they hit the big time. An intimate space with two bars, pool table, photo booth and open-air smoking area, this Silver Lake bar (formerly known as Spaceland) has a local cult following for its cheap drinks and choice music selection. Friendly bartenders pour stout drinks, the bathrooms are clean and well stocked, and the crowd is too cool to care. Expect all kinds of rock music along with its weird cousins, with a focus on indie rock but plenty of folk, experimental and artsy ish as well. The club’s small stage lends a "party-in-my-living-room" vibe, as do the neon signs and couches in the back room, and two bars mean that you never have to wait too long for your PBR. Here the focus is on the music, and young bands come to perfect their sets and practice crowd-surfing before being unleashed to the world. A Silver Lake staple with a loud yet low-key atmosphere, Satellite offers free cover on every Monday night and some other nights as well – arrive early to grab a table with your friends.
